Obituary: Minnie Sue Barbee Absher, age 88, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC. She was born March 9, 1925 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Roy Lee Barbee and Alice Virginia Allmon Barbee. Minnie Sue was a 1942 graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. Later, she attended the former LaMarick Beauty School. In her earlier years, Minnie Sue was employed with the LaMarick Beauty Salons in the Charlotte area when she served as manager at the Belk Department Store in Kannapolis. Later, she was a supervisor for LaMarick in the region until her retirement. Minnie Sue later worked for K-Town Furniture, Carolina Interiors, and Village Furniture until her retirement there. She was a charter member of Shadybrook Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she had served over the years as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, numerous committees. She took pride in organizing the first food pantry at Shadybrook Baptist Church. She also found time to volunteer at CMC-Northeast. Her family fondly remembers her as a "visionary" and as a "leader" to get involved in any program or function and get that job done. She also placed great importance on serving her church and giving quality time to her family in that order. Minnie Sue still found time to be a Mary Kay consultant in the late years of her life. She also wrote a book entitled, "The Seasons of My Life" that chronicled her life from birth to the present. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Grant Absher; and three brothers, Delbert Barbee, Bill Barbee, and Foy Barbee. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, September 16, 2013 at Shadybrook Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Rickey Oxford. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends after the memorial service in the fellowship hall of the church. Survivors include her two daughters, Sharoyn Absher Burroughs & husband, Roger of Kannapolis, NC and Neva Jane Absher Blair & husband, David of Waynesville, NC; six grandchildren, Roger Dale Burroughs, Jr. & wife, Kristin, Bradley Sheldon Burroughs, Jennifer Burroughs Holsclaw, Lori Diane Burroughs, Joshua Blair & wife, Nicole, and Benjamin Blair & wife, Amanda; seven great-grandchildren, Jackson, Grant, Justin, Joleigh, Aspen, Chase, and Beck; a sister, Geneva Gaskins of Kannapolis, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County for all of their help and support during this difficult time in our lives.
