Obituary: Minnie Viola Carriker Childers, 82, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Susan on Monday, April 4, 2016, after an extended illness from COPD and Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4:00PM at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel with the Rev. Buff Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30-4:00PM Wednesday April 6, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Viola was born September 4, 1933 in Cabarrus Co. to the late William Pinkney and Mattie Mae Furr Carriker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles Childers, five brothers, Adam, William, John, Hubert, and Fred Carriker; and three sisters, Mary Lou Brines, Helen Cook, and Francis Carriker. She is survived by three daughters Tammy Childers of Kannapolis, Susan Haigler and husband Dean of Concord, and Pam Bluto and husband Nick of Melborne, FL; four grandchildren, Adam Haigler of Cudjoe Key, FL, Leah Haigler Mills and husband Eddie, Mandy and Brittany Haigler all of Concord, two great-granddaughters Caitlyn and Paisley Mills both of Concord, she is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Viola graduated from Concord High School in 1952. After graduating from Concord High, Viola obtained a degree in business from Evans Business College. Viola furthered her education after raising her three daughters, by attending Rowan Technical College and receiving a degree in Cosmetology. She became an instructor for Kannapolis Beauty College after several years of being a beautician. Viola was a devoted and loving wife, mother, Mawmaw and friend, she will be dearly missed.
