Minnie Boger Downum

Obituary: Minnie Boger Downum, age 88, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, NC after one day of illness. She had made her home at Magnolia Gardens, Spencer, NC for the past year. Minnie was born October 16, 1925 in Rowan County, NC, the daughter of the late Calvin Rufus Boger and Annie Belle Frick Boger. Minnie was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, for 44 years until her retirement. She held her church membership at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Concord, NC. Her family fondly remembers her love of crocheting afghans. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Downum; three brothers; and two sisters. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Brian Smith. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Concord, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her three daughters, Betty Harris of Mooresville, NC; Peggy Tucker of Cleveland, NC; and Shirley Ludwick of Salisbury, NC; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.

Service: 11:00 AM Thursday, April 10, 2014 Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment: Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
