Obituary: Molly Ann Fowlkes Coggins passed away on August 27, 2015, in Concord, NC, at the age of 69, while braving her battle with cancer. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Maryanna Ter Poorten (Dr. Jon Ter Poorten) of Concord, son Reid Coggins of San Francisco, grandchildren James (9) and Grace (6), brother George Fowlkes (Mary) of Fort Mill, sister-in-law Claudia Fowlkes of Winston-Salem, and many loving nieces and nephews. Molly was born on June 24, 1946, in Oak Ridge, TN, to father Charles Fowlkes and mother Mary Ann McKeethan. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Charles. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in home economics in 1968, Winthrop University with a Masters in childhood education in 1974, and the University of Georgia with a Doctorate in counseling in 1990. Molly began teaching in 1968 and continued serving in early childhood education as a director of the LEAP Ahead Program, curriculum coordinator, and principal. Upon her retirement in 2002, she enjoyed a private family counseling practice until 2013. Molly is blessed to be honored and loved by close friends and an integral part of the lives of her children and grandchildren. Molly requested to be cremated. Her ashes will be interred at the family plot in Harriman Cemetery in Tennessee. A memorial service will be held at 3pm Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill, SC. A reception at the church's fellowship hall will be held prior to the service at 1:30pm; all are welcome.
