Obituary: Mona Fipps Baldwin, age 86, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at her home after several years of declining health. She was born January 14, 1930 in Columbus County, NC, the daughter of the late Robert S. Fipps and Beulah Mercer Fipps. Mona was a 1950 graduate of UNC-Greensboro with a B.A. in Spanish and later at the University of Arizona where she received her M.A. degree also in Spanish. She was employed for 34 years as a Spanish instructor with Kannapolis City Schools and after retirement she helped develop and taught the ESL program in Kannapolis City Schools. Mona was an active member of the Alpha Delta Kappa teaching sorority for 51 years. Her many passions include supporting the American Field Service program, reading, spending time with her beloved Siamese cats, and in addition was an accomplished pianist. She was also an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she had served her church for 55 years. Her family strongly remembers her as a loving, devoted mother, grandmother, and wife. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a sister, Bobbie Nance. The memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Kirk Tutterow. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Carlos P. Baldwin; her children, Mark Baldwin (Debbie), Scott Baldwin (Sharon), Bethany Heydt, and Kelly Baldwin; her grandchildren, Matthew Baldwin (Tonia), Patrick Baldwin (Emily), Rebecca Sarine (Jeremy), Mallory Morris (Michelle), and Hunter Morris (Jenny); her great-grandchildren, Olivia Sarine, Gabe Sarine, Ezra Sarine, Emma Sarine, Irene Sarine, and Callahan Baldwin; and one sister, Hilda Bullard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 416 E. First Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083 or the Humane Society of Concord, 2010 Wilshire Court SW, Concord, NC 28025.
