Obituary: Mrs. Mickey Darlene Irby Carter, 69, of Concord went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 2, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 21, 1948 in Cabarrus County, N.C. a daughter of Hazel Elizabeth Irby of Columbia, Ms. and the late Lester Alexander Irby. Mickey was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School and was a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and going to the beach. For many years they would vacation in Florida where all of the family would gather. Mickey was a dedicated wife and loving mother. She would attend her daughter's horse shows come rain or shine. She cared so much more for others than for herself. Everyone who knew her loved her. She guided her husband in his career decisions; always being the calm one, giving him much needed advise and sometimes a nudge when necessary. Her love for her children was unlimited. She guided them thru their years of reaching maturity and was always there for them. They loved all the parties and time spent with her. Mickey was a guiding hand and shoulder for her family to lean on and will be dearly missed. One of her last acts was to write beautiful Easter cards to her children. Although her last years were very difficult as her health declined, she faced every obstacle with courage and grace. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held 12:30 P.M. Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Carolina Memorial Park conducted by Dr. Steve Ayers. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home 11:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. prior to the graveside service. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Mike. She and Mike would have celebrated their fiftieth anniversary on April 20th. She is also survived by a daughter, April Dawn Suchanoff and her husband Paul of Concord, a son, Michael Alexander (Alex) of the home. Also surviving are two sisters, Terri Kimble and husband Jerry of Columbia, Ms. and Lisa Daily of Gulfport, Ms., two aunts; Sylvia Teague of Kannapolis and Nancy Argabright of Kannapolis, a brother-in-law James Edward "Ed" Carter and wife Joan of Charlotte and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 128 S Tryon St #1588, Charlotte, NC 28202 if so desired. Online condolences may be sent to www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
