Obituary: Myra Ashworth Yorke, age 87, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at her home after a brief illness. She was born February 24, 1928 in Rowan County, NC, the daughter of the late John Collier Ashworth and Nora Miller Ashworth. Myra was a graduate at J.W. Cannon High School. Myra was employed with the former Cabarrus Bank & Trust Company in Kannapolis for twenty years and later at UNCC as a n admissions clerk for approx. nineteen years until her retirement in 1991. She was a lifetime resident of the area and a member of First Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC. Myra enjoyed traveling, seriously into genealogy, and keeping knowledgeable of local history. She was also an avid reader of history books and historical novels. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Yorke who died March 8, 1993; and her son, Ronald E. Yorke. A graveside service will be held at 3:45 PM Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Dr. Thomas E. Cabaniss. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home prior to the graveside service. Survivors include her daughter, Debra Yorke Mortuiccio of Kannapolis, NC; two grandchildren, Amanda Yorke and Jared Yorke (Emme) & their son, Judah, all of Ft. Wayne, ID; and her daughter-in-law, Luanne Yorke of Ft. Wayne, IN. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 101 N. Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
