Obituary: - Myrtle Stancil Smith, age 86, passed from this earthly life at Universal Healthcare to be with her loving Lord and Savior on January 7, 2015. She had been in declining health for many years and seriously ill for two weeks. She was born December 21, 1928 in Mecklenburg County, NC, the daughter of the late Sim Caldwell Stancil and Ruth Lillian Hartsell Stancil. Myrtle was a 1946 graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. Myrtle was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, Sewing Room after thirty-three years of service. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC since 1952. Her loves were for her Lord and Savior, her church and all of her family members. Wonderful memories flood the hearts of family members by her loving touch on each of their lives. She was a great grandmother who loved her grandchildren and always made them feel special. Alzheimers is a sick disease but it was evident that she knew Jesus and He was with her till her last breath on earth by her singing and humming praise all of her last days. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Ben Smith; grand daughter, Stephanie Ann Smith, and her siblings, Ray Stancil, Grady Stancil, Geneva Vaughn; Don Stancil; and Janie Roberts. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Tony Fox. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC. The family will receive from 12:30 to 2:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Survivors include her children, one son, Doug Smith, daughter, Charlee (Wayne) Smith, both of Kannapolis, NC; four grandchildren, Aaron D. Smith, Jr. of Davidson, NC; Kristen (Jeff) Sheets of Huntersville, NC; Mica Smith of Kannapolis, NC; and Tommy (Candace) Welch of China Grove, NC; great-grandchildren, Ben Tyler Smith Harrison Sheets, Avery Welch, and Cooper Welch; and one brother, Johnny Dowd Stancil of Kannapolis, NC.
