Myrtle Whitehead

Obituary: Myrtle Farrell Whitehead, 88, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at CHC-Northeast Medical Center. She had been in declining health but death was unexpected. Myrtle was born September 25, 1928 in Chatham Co. NC, a daughter of the late Roscoe Middleton Farrell and Myrtle Angie Johnson Farrell. In addition to her parents she was preceded by her husband, Charles Henry Whitehead who died in 1990 and an older sister Callie Vick Phillips. She was a graduate of the Women's College of Greensboro (now UNC-Greensboro). She moved to Kannapolis to teach High School science for several years before devoting herself to be a loving, caring and giving homemaker for her husband and children. She enjoyed reading and playing the piano. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home conducted by Rev. David Franks. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. Survivors include one son, Charles "Charlie "Henry Whitehead,Jr. of the Home, one daughter, Beth (Sam) Chewning of Landis, one grandson, Jeff Chewning of China Grove, and one twin brother, Roscoe Middleton Farrell of Pittsboro. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to American Paralized Veteran's Association, National Headquarters 801 Eighteenth Street, NW Washington, DC 20006-3517 or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis Tn. 38105 in Mrs. Whitehead's memory.
