Obituary: Nadene McAlpin Johnson, 95, of Kannapolis, formerly of Salisbury passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 after a period of declining health. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM Monday, August 6 at Carolina Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Hubbard officiating. Her family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 11:00 to 12:00 PM Monday prior to services at the cemetery. Nadene was born January 12, 1923 in southern Illinois, a daughter of the late Nahmon and Orpha Hudgens McAlpin. In addition to her parents, Nadene was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert M. Johnson, her sons, Michael and John Johnson, her grandson, Brett Frey, her sister, Imogene Dubley and her brothers, Nahmon "Mick" and Glenn McAlpin. Nadene loved to spend time with her family, growing flowers and gardening. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She will be dearly missed. Those left to remember her include her daughter, Bonnie Vaughn of Kannapolis, her grandchildren, Mollie Bangert of Concord, Brian Frey (Patti) of Lake-in-the-Hills, IL, Wendy Settlemyer (David) of Kannapolis, Robyn Vaughn of Wilmington, Randy Vaughn of Mooresville, Tina Fritch (Joe) of Deltona FL, Heather Grigg of Old Hickory, TN, Erica Kobige (Sean) of Lake-in-the-Hills IL and John Johnson, Jr. and Matthew Johnson, both of Marion IL, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and her sister, Charlotte Quandt of Elgin, IL. Her family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice of Cabarrus Co., especially Sharon and Christy for their love and compassion shown to Nadene and family at this time.
