Nancy Gibson Mitchem

Nancy Gibson Mitchem, 74, of Kannapolis, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2025. She was born November 11, 1950, to the late David Harrison Gibson and Esther Langley Gibson.

Nancy proudly served in the US Army and worked many years at Organic Dyestuffs as a Lab Technician. Nancy loved going to the beach. She loved attending her monthly meetings with her widow’s group, Widows Adventure Group. Nancy was also an Honorary member of the Forged Sisterhood, where she was known as Mama Scooter.

Most of all, Nancy was very family oriented. She loved all her family and friends. She especially loved her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nancy’s faith meant the world to her and the love for Jesus Christ.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Brian Keith Mitchem (Tracey) and David “Andy” Mitchem (Brandy); her grandchildren, Matt Mitchem, Trey Mitchem, Dylan Mitchem, Dylan Campbell, Adyson Campbell, Tim Mitchem, Branson Moore, Kaden Moore and Addison Moore and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dean Mitchem in 2009; her brother, Bub Gibson and her sister, Joyce Jonas.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Family will receive visitors at Ben Avenue Free Will Baptist Church in Kannapolis from 3:00 – 4:00 PM and the memorial service will follow at 4:00 PM. Nancy will be laid to rest on Thursday, April 17 at 12:30 PM in the Salisbury National Cemetery Annex, 501 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, NC 28144.
