Nathalane Murphy McCorkle, 88, passed away Tuesday morning, March 30, 2021, at Best of Care Assisted Living, where she had been a resident.
Born January 13, 1933, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Ousie Lee and Sarah Janel Pennell Murphy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Samuel “Sam” McCorkle, on December 5, 2000, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Nathalane was a Landis High School graduate and had retired after more than 25 years of dedicated from the Rowan County School System, where she had been a librarian at Landis Elementary. Mrs. McCorkle was a faithful member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ (now St. Paul’s Reformed Church), where she had been active the women’s guild and church choir. She enjoyed reading, camping and was talented in crafting. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, Mrs. McCorkle will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Loving family members include her children, Cindy Caudill (Mark), and Jeff McCorkle (Karen); her brothers, Duard Murphy and Larry Murphy (Edie); sisters, Willaree McDuffie, Gayle Stack (Tony) and Vivian Murphy, her grandchildren, Statler McCorkle (Dara), Krista Boone (Michael), Madison McCorkle, Cory Caudill (McKenzie) and Jesse Caudill; 6 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services to remember, celebrate and give thanks for the life of Mrs. McCorkle will begin at 5:00 PM Thursday, April 1, 2021, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, conducted by Rev. Danny Pope. The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the services. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery, where Mrs. McCorkle will be laid to rest with her husband. The family will receive friends following the committal service in the church fellowship hall.
