Obituary: Nathan Willard Blackwelder, Sr. age 92, of Landis died Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Liberty Commons in Salisbury after a period of declining health. His funeral will be held at Central Baptist Church at 2:00 PM Thursday, Dec. 13 with Rev. Dean Hunter and Rev. Curtis Parker officiating. His family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Nathan was born November 26, 1926 in Cabarrus Co. a son of the late Irvin D. and Mary Proffitt Blackwelder. He was a lifelong area resident and he attended Cannon High School. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy, serving during WWII. Nathan came home from the war and attended the American Institute of Baking in Chicago. Upon graduating, Nathan went to work as a baker for Golden Crust Bakery and Bitsy Bakery. Later he worked at Cannon Mills, Plant 1 in the bleachery. Nathan was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Nathan was preceded in death by his four siblings; brothers, Dan Blackwelder and Norman Blackwelder and his wife Florence, sisters, Violet Blackwelder and Evelyn B. Moss. He is survived by his wife, Margaret L. Davis Blackwelder of the home, his son, Nathan W. "Sonny" Blackwelder, Jr. of China Grove, his daughters, Kay B. Fisher of Harrisburg and Judy B. Mechum (James) of Landis, 4 grandchildren; Jeff Fisher (Tracy), John Fisher (Kim), Eric Mechum and Trudy Beverly (Eddie), 6 great-grandchildren; Justin "JT", Savannah, Ashley, Allyson, Cameron, and Austin, 1 great-great-grandchild, Carleigh, numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, David.
