Obituary: Nawatha Turner, 89, of Kannapolis, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Caremoor Assisted Living. She was born October 10, 1926 in Kannapolis to the late Juitt Lester Milam and Naomi Foster Miliam. Nawatha grew up in Kannapolis and for a short time worked at Cannon Mills before moving to Jacksonville, FL, where she worked in a book store and was a member of South Point Baptist Church. She loved her church and loved Jesus and was there any time the doors were open. She enjoyed baking and was known for her peanut brittle, she also loved to be outdoors camping and fishing. Nawatha was full of life, and after spending over 50 years in Florida she moved back home to Kannapolis to be closer to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband John Turner, four brothers and three sisters. Those left to cherish her memory, one sister Georgia Moore and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 11, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Rickey S. Oxford. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
