Obituary: Ned Cox Reece, 94 of Kannapolis passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 28, 2019 at CHS-NE from complications due to hip surgery. His funeral service will be held at Midway United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, N.C. on Sunday, March 3rd at 2:00 PM with Rev. Todd McCullough officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord. His family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Sunday, prior to the funeral. Ned was born April 16, 1924 in Cabarrus Co. He was the son of the late William "Fred" and Claudia Cox Reece. In addition to his parents, Ned was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Elizabeth Fisher Reece in 1987 and his sister, Nancy Champion. Ned was a lifelong area resident. He spent much of his youth in Mt. Pleasant with his grandparents on their farm. Ned graduated from J. W. Cannon High School, and as an adult Ned owned and operated Ideal Barbershop in Kannapolis. Ned was recognized recently as the oldest active member of Midway Methodist Church. He was an avid Duke and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Ned enjoyed playing soft ball on various church teams and open leagues in the 40's and 50's. Ned was a loving, kind husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a true friend to everyone. Survivors include his 2 children; Michael Stanley "Stan" Reece (Terry) of Kannapolis and Gina Reece Jones (Mikel) of Mt. Pleasant, his grandchildren; Kathryn Reece Simmons (Evan), Hillary Reece, Jackson R. Jones and "Special granddaughter" Laura Abernethy and his great-grandson, Truett M. Simmons, as well as numerous other loving relatives.
