Obituary: Ned Aubrey Ritchie, Sr. of Kannapolis went peacefully to his heavenly home, while surrounded by his family, on Sunday June 10, 2018. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, June 15 at First Wesleyan Church with Rev. Wayne Preusz, Rev. Don Safrit and Rev. Scott Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home on Thursday, June 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Ned was born July 5, 1932 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Jesse David and Maggie Cordelia Ketner Ritchie. In addition to his parents, Ned was preceded in death by 8 brothers and 3 sisters. A lifelong area resident, Ned served in the United States Air Force for four years and retired from the Concord Telephone Company as a computer programmer analyst. He was a devoted Christian serving God through his church and community. Ned spent many years as treasurer of Center Grove Lutheran Church and his current church, First Wesleyan, both in Kannapolis. He was an avid bowler, gardener and loved to fish. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy. Ned is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Eva Elizabeth "Sue" Ritchie Ritchie, three daughters; Melinda Beal (Brent) of Hickory, Eva Weaver (Rick) of Concord, Kathy Hartsell (Tony) of Kannapolis, his son, Ned Aubrey Ritchie, Jr. of Kannapolis, four grandchildren; Robert Beal (Megan), Hannah Kilgore (Spencer), Caleb Weaver and Sarah Beal, his great-granddaughter, Annaka Beal and his one surviving brother, Archie Ritchie of Garner as well as many nieces and nephews.
