Neely Vendetta “Vennie” Moore Sloop , 97, of Kannapolis passed away at her home on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 after a period of declining health.

A funeral service to celebrate Vennie’s life will be held at New Hope Lutheran Church at 3:30 PM Sunday, August 15, with Dr. Michael W. Frye (retired) officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the church prior to the funeral from 2:30 to 3:30 PM on Sunday.

Vennie was born May 8, 1924 in Rowan Co., a daughter of the late John P. and Simmie Justice Moore. She was the last surviving of six children. In addition to her parents, Vennie was preceded in death by her sisters; Jessie Marie Loden and Dorothy Lee Murphree and her brothers; William “Frank” Moore, Jack Moore and Phillip “Gus” Moore, who was killed during WWII during the D-Day invasion and her husband, Ralph Lee Sloop.

Vennie was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Landis High School in 1942 and the Southeastern Beauty College in Charlotte in 1960. In early years, she worked for Cannon Mills and then as a beautician for Belk’s in their La Marick Beauty Salon and Vennie also ran her own beauty shop out of her home prior to retiring. Vennie was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church and the LCW, where she had served as secretary, vice president and past president. She had sung in the church choir, was a past council member and a former Sunday school teacher. Vennie was also a former leader in Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include her son, Anthony “Tony” W. Sloop (Martha) of Kannapolis, her daughter, Angela S. Coffey (Leroy) of Boone, her grandchildren; Leah S. Sweatt (Bradley), Dr. Brandon W. Sloop (Johnna), Michael L. Coffey (Melissa) and Andrew Coffey and her great-grandchildren; Braden and Dawson Sweatt, Haydn and Henry Sloop, Peyton, Kamdyn, Braxtyn and Gracelyn Coffey. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
