Obituary: Nell M. Dayvault, Sept. 6, 1914 - May 7, 2013, born Nell Bena Mason in Iredell County, NC to Edward Franklin Mason and Nannie Woodard Mason. She married Mearl Alexander Dayvault on March 10, 1933 in Lancaster, SC. They later had two sons Frank Alexander Dayvault and Marx Wayne Dayvault. They never moved from the Kannapolis area, but visited both of their sons in North Myrtle Beach, SC often and went on numerous trips fishing in the North Myrtle Beach/Little River, SC area and to the mountain areas in NC to visit relatives and just to get away. They later went on quite a few bus trips and 2 trips to Hawaii, which they both enjoyed. Nell worked at Cannon Mills to help her husband owner/operator of Dayvault's Esso Station, to build and furnish a home for their family on Cannon Blvd. She then left Cannon Mills to become (one of) the best mother, wife and homemaker in the NC area. She was noted by her family, friends and church members (North Kannapolis Methodist Church) for her famous pound cakes, baking to give away hundreds if not thousands of them throughout the years. They later sold their station and Mearl worked for Cardell Carter & Jim Winehouse while she stayed home to care for family, house and gardens, both vegetables and flowers galore. She took care of her grandchildren; Keith & Mark by Frank & Lorna and Donna Waine by Wayne & Shelby. Trips to Maw Maws house were always enjoyed. She also had plenty of food cooked at meal times because she never knew how many she'd be feeding. The sons were famous for bringing folks home to eat with them, mostly at dinner time (lunch). She always had a smile, a nice word and a plate full of food to offer them. If they were lucky, she may even have a pound cake she hadn't given away which they could enjoy. Nell was predeceased by her husband Mearl A. Dayvault, father, Edward Franklin Mason, mother, Nannie Mason, sisters Minnie Brakefield, Jane Winecoff and brother John Mason, sister-in-law Fannie(Ralph) Mason and brother-in-law Delbert (Lois) Goodin all of NC, daughter in laws Shelby Teague (Wayne) and Lorna Duvall (Frank) Dayvault both of SC. She is survived by sisters Bessie Liles, Mary Lackey, Ethel Campbell, Lois Goodin, and brother Ralph Mason all of NC; her sons Frank A. & M. Wayne (Kathleen) Dayvault of Little River, SC, grandchildren Mark (Kim) Dayvault of Little River, SC, Keith Dayvault of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Donna Waine (Joe) Springs of Concord, NC; five great grandchildren, Tyler, Alyssa and Peyton Dayvault and Carly & Kimberly Springs; and two great-great-grandchildren.
