Obituary: Nell Peeler Kirk, age 88, died Wednesday, May 24, 2011 at the Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC. She was born July 27, 1922 in Stanly County, the daughter of the late Barney Ransom Peeler and Daisy Mondena Miller Peeler.She was the last survivor of her six other brothers and sisters. In her earlier years Nell was employed as a dental assistant for the late dental practice of Dr. George Alexander who practiced in Kannapolis.She was also a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC for many years until her health failed. Known by many as a great golfer, she and her late husband enjoyed playing golf at the former Kannapolis Country Club and the Cabarrus Country Club. She competed in many tournaments and won various awards over the years.Nell enjoyed accompanying her husband on their annual trips to the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta and played on many other golf courses throughout the United States.Being very crafty, she was an excellent needle pointer and decoupage artist.Reading and playing bridge were also favorite pastimes for Nell. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Jim Mack Kirk who died August 10, 2009. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 27, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Judy White and Dr. Harold Bales.Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC.The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Robert Surratt who cared deeply for Nell as her physician, friend, and golf buddy; to the entire staff of Morningside Living Center who cared so compassionately for Nell.Also, the family sincerely thanks Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County for its devoted attention to Nell. Survivors include a number of nieces & nephews including Doris Peeler Redding of Concord, NC, Brenda Peeler Palmatier of Laurel, MD, Michael Peeler of Raleigh, NC, and Carolyn Sasser of Birmingham, AL, Joe Russell of Richfield, NC, Kimberly Kirk Helms of Indian Trail, NC, Gene Starnes and Pat Starnes Bramlett of Albemarle, NC, Judy Starnes Brasington of Charleston, SC and Highlands, NC, and Lane Peeler of Lexington, SC. Visitation: 1-2 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 2 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment: Entombment will follow at Carolina Mem. Park.
