Obituary: Nell Mason Nichols, 98, of Kannapolis, passed away Friday November 6, 2015 at Universal Healthcare & Rehab Concord. She was born September 17, 1917 in Cabarrus County to the late L.S. Mason and Della Stowe Mason. Nell was employed with Carolina Maid in Granite Quarry and later at the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant 1 in the wash cloth dept. for 17 years until her retirement, she was a member of Phaniels Baptist Church, Rockwell she was the oldest active member up to six years ago. She was also a seamstress who sewed for the public. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Faye Parham and Jean Kurfees; one son, Reid Nichols, one grandson Steve Parham; one granddaughter Carla Messick, one brother Raymond Mason, two sisters Burlene Davis, and Eumenus Yates, two son in laws Gene Pethel and Carl Messick, and great grandson Daniel Redman. Those left to cherish Nell's memory, two daughters Louise Pethel, Linda Messick, daughter in law, Jane Nichols, son in law, Johnny Kurfees, 9 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews, a special cousin Naomi and Chub Dorton. Visitation will be held from 12-1:45 PM Monday (Nov. 9) at Phaniels Baptist Church. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday at Phaniels Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael Taylor and Rev. Max Vanderburg officiating. Burial will follow at the Church Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the care givers of Nell over the last several years for their kind and loving care, and also her church family for everything.
