Obituary: Nellie Adele Lingerfelt Poole, 83, departed her earthly body on Thursday at her home in Kannapolis. Mrs. Poole succumbed after battling several years with Alzheimer's disease. She is the daughter of Fuschia Blanton Lingerfelt and Menefee "Monk" Lingerfelt, formerly of Casar, North Carolina. She was predeceased in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years Elmer L. "Shorty" Poole, and her brother, R. Gene Lingerfelt. She is survived by her three sons: William Keith Poole and wife Patti of Kannapolis; Eric Lee Poole and wife Tammy of Concord; and Mark Douglas Poole and wife Monica of Kannapolis. Mrs. Poole is also survived by a brother, W. Roger Lingerfelt and wife Carolyn of Kannapolis; and grandchildren Brandon Keith Poole, Mallory Poole Beam, Jeremy Chad Poole, Jonathan David Poole and Benjamin Ridgeway. Mrs. Poole was born in Cleveland County, North Carolina and moved to Kannapolis at an early age. She graduated from J. W. Cannon High School in 1948. Nellie was a lifelong active member of Jackson Park Methodist Church, Kannapolis. She was a member of the Gladys Nelson Sunday School class for more than 40 years, sang in the choir, and participated in the United Methodist Women's Circle. Nellie loved to garden. She and Shorty spent many years planting vegetables, fruit trees and flowers on their property. She and Shorty also loved to travel, taking many vacations with friends. She also loved children, especially her grandchildren, whom she doted on whenever possible. Nellie worked her entire life in this community, including Kannapolis Credit Bureau and as an office manager at The Radiology Clinic in Concord. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Jackson Park United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Neal Brower. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home. The Family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to Tammy Richardson Smith and other caregivers who treated Nellie as if she were their own family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 PM, Saturday February 23, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 3:00 PM, Sunday February 24, 2013 Jackson Park United Methodist Church

Interment: Carokina Memorial Park
