Nina Merle Murph

Obituary: Mrs. Nina (Merle) Dalrymple Murph was born February 3, 1929 and gently returned to the arms of her Savior on September 13, 2016. She was 87. She was born in Darlington County, S. C., but has lived since early childhood in Kannapolis. Mrs. Murph graduated from Cannon High School in Kannapolis, then earned degrees from Mars Hill College, Stetson University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She retired from Kannapolis City Schools in 1993 after teaching elementary and middle school for over 20 years. Mrs. Murph is the daughter of the late Johnnie Miller Dalrymple and Allie Horne Dalrymple. She was preceded in death by her late husband of 39 years, William L. Murph, Jr. (Bill). Mrs. Murph is survived by two children, John L. Murph of Kannapolis and Rebecca Murph Milam and husband Bill of Maryville, TN; two grandchildren, Brennen Murph Milam of Knoxville, TN and Amy Milam Moore and husband Chase of Denver, CO, and one brother, John W. Dalrymple and wife Shirley of Raleigh, NC. Other family members left to cherish her memory include her three nieces and a nephew, Morgan Taylor and husband Matthew of Midlothian, VA, Aaron Dalrymple and wife Rosalie of Redondo Beach, CA, Avery Quatro and husband Dave of La Mirada, CA, and Merrill Hopper and husband Dave of Nashville, TN and five grandnephews and three grandnieces. Mrs. Murph attended West Point Baptist Church growing up, serving as their pianist from the age of 9. Following her marriage, she was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church. For the last 20 years, she has enjoyed her role as a volunteer pianist at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis. She lived out her faith with gentleness, kindness, and generosity in her many caring relationships with family and friends. One of her legacies to her family and friends was her love of books and her joy in giving Bibles and devotional books to one and all. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis conducted by Pastor Darryl Evans and Rev. Bill Jolley. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service.
