Nona Lou Proffitt Phillips

Obituary: Nona P. Phillips, age 97, formerly of Kannapolis died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at The Oaks at Town Center in Harrisburg after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel with Dr. Forbis L. Kivett officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends a half hour prior to the service in the Annex Chapel. Nona was born October 15, 1912 in Knoxville, TN. She was the daughter of the Late Joseph Pascal Proffitt and the Late Luiza Jane Noe Proffitt. A long time area resident, Nona was employed with the former Cannon Mills. She was the oldest living member of her beloved church, First Wesleyan Church of Kannapolis.In her service to her First Wesleyan she played piano, sang in quartets and taught Sunday School. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and all who met her. Nona was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew C. Phillips, who died in June 28, 2009. She is survived by her 2 daughters Andrea P. Hamilton and Jeannie Phillips, both of Charlotte; her grandchildren, Jason Hamilton of Charlotte, Andy Wagner of Cary and Jane Mormino of Cary. She is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren; Judah, Rose and Claudia Mormino and Amelia, Olivia and Nona Elise Wagner.
