Obituary: Nona Mae Wilcox Smith, 90, of Kannapolis died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Big Elm Nursing Center after a period of declining health. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, December 15, 2012 at St. Enoch Lutheran Church in Kannapolis with Rev. John Mark Beam officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:30 PM on Saturday, prior to the funeral, at other times they will be at their respective homes. Nona was born November 25, 1922 in Mecklenburg Co., a daughter of the late Vance and Hattie Powers Wilcox. She was a life-long area resident and active member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church. Nona retired from working for Cannon Mills in Plant #4 in the Spinning Room and then worked out her home as a child-care provider. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and will be truly missed. In addition to her parents, Nona was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Andrews Smith and grandson, William Eugene Smith and 7 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, "Billy" Smith (Joan) of Pinellas Park FL, Harvey R. "Ray" Smith (Jeanne) of Kannapolis, daughter, Clara Evelyn Smith Dixon (Everette) of Kannapolis and 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
