Obituary: Norman Reid Black, 78, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Black was born in Cabarrus County, February 21, 1935 to the late Leroy and Sudie Bame Black. Norman was employed by Cannon Mills for many years; was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He took special joy in giving away the things he grew in his garden. He cherished his family, brothers, and sisters. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sue Black; daughter, Tonia Black-Gold (Brad) of Concord; a son, Jeff Black (Thanya) of Concord; three grandchildren, Riker Gold, Tanner Black, and Salem Black; two sisters, Ruby Deal of Kannapolis, Mary Phifer of Kannapolis; three brothers, Gene Black of Landis, Roy Black of Kannapolis, and Tommy Black of China Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert Black. A funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Glynn Weatherby officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
