Obituary: Salisbury, NC Norman Lester Coggins, 78, of 416 Candlewick Drive Salisbury died Friday July 31, 2009 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem. He was born April 18, 1931 in Rowan County the son of the late Lester Velt Coggins and the late Edna Eller Coggins. He was also preceded in death by a son Norman Craig Coggins. He was a retired owner of Financial Accounting Services. He was a member of Neel Road Baptist Church, Salibury. He was a graduate of the University Miami where he was a music major. He was also a graduate of U.N.C. and had a Masters degree in Religious Education from the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He played piano and organ in various Baptist churches since his childhood starting at Franklin Heights Baptist Church at the age of 9. He was veteran of US Navy where he was in the Naval Quartet playing trombone. He played all over the world including USO tours for the Navy. He is survived by his wife Betty Brigman Coggins, his daughter Susan Zebley and husband David of Durham, and two grandchildren: Zackery and Olivia. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday August 3, 2009 at Neel Road Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Neil Westbrook and Rev. Mike Hubbard. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Sunday at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis.
