Odell Tarlton Edwards

Obituary: Odell Tarlton Edwards, 95, formerly of 7777 Freeze Road, Kannapolis, walked home with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 10, 2010. It was her late husband, Thomas Harry Edwards' birthday. Born April 27, 1915 in Monroe, NC Mrs. Edwards was the eldest daughter of the late William Lumas Tarlton and Dora Idella Williams Tarlton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Harry Edwards and her infant daughter Barbara Jeanette. She was also preceded in death by her brother Oscar Tarlton and her sister Alma Smith. Odell is survived by her brothers Raeford, Donald, and Charles Tarlton all of Monroe, NC, Wilson Tarlton of Oakboro, NC and Boyce Tarlton of Stanfield, NC. Her living sisters include Rachel Blackmon of Mint Hill, and La Nelle Richardson of Monroe, NC. Odell graduated from Unionville High School. She moved to Kannapolis in 1933 to work in Cannon Mills. She was an active member of Unity United Methodist Church for over 70 years where she was a Sunday School teacher and an active member of the United Methodist Women. Odell is survived by her son Howard Edwards, and his wife Carol of Salisbury, NC and her daughter Betty Hartsell of China Grove, NC. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Joanna Brown, Tammy Fox, and Mike and Lynn Miller. Her great grandchildren are Danielle Wilcox, Shayley Elwood, Morgan and Adison Brown, and Ashlyn and Lauren Miller. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, August 12, 2010 At Unity United Methodist Church . The Rev. Carl Settle will officate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:45 P.M. at Unity United Methodist Church, 8505 Unity Church Road, Kannapolis, NC.
