Odist Bowlin

Obituary: Odist Bowlin, 92, of Kannapolis went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, September 4, 2017 at Kiser Hospice House. He was born March 16, 1925 in Wilkes Co. to the late Jonas Elijah Bowlin and Bessie Mae Wingler Bowlin. Odist was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII serving primarily on the USS Bunker Hill. He was a humble and gentle soul that found enjoyment in the simple things in life. Odist, a true southern gentleman, worked hard to provide for those he loved. With pride in his heart and a smile on his face he spoke about his God, his family, and his country. He found beauty and joy in God's creations and enjoyed sharing that beauty with others through his flower and vegetable gardens and wine making. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings. Those left to cherish his memory, his wife of 67 years Judy E. Bowlin, son, Clifford Bowlin (Sherry) of Winston-Salem, daughter, Belinda Jean Reid (Bill) of China Grove, two granddaughters, Heather Suggs of China Grove, Ashlie Beavers of Greensboro, three Great grandchildren Madelyn Suggs, Culley Beavers, Huxley Beavers, and one brother Max Bowlin. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday Sept. 7 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Shane Utley officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 2:30-4:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery at 11:00 AM Friday, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association - Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Rd. #250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
