Obituary: Omar L. Phillips, age 86 of Old Concord Rd., died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at CMC-NorthEast Med. Center in Concord after a brief illness. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 14, 2009 at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove with Rev. Jimmie Barnhill officiating. Omar was born June 25, 1923 to the late Fred L. and Elizabeth Allen Phillips. He was a longtime area resident and a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII in the pacific theater. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Omar was a member of Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was retired from Cannon Mills Co. as an overhauler and then worked for al the various area mills for several years. In addition to his parents Omar was preceded in death by his wife, Caroleen Lawing Phillips, who died May 6, 2009 and also 4 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by his son Terry Phillips and wife, Debbie and his daughter Connie Freeze and husband, Gary all of China Grove and also 4 grandchildren and 10 Great-grandchildren. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the Phillips family.
