Obituary: Omie "Gigi" Goad Baker, 98 of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 4, 2016 at CHS- Northeast Medical Center, Concord. Death was unexpected. She was born July 1, 1918 in Carroll County, Va. a daughter of the late Robert Ennis and Ruth Nester Goad. Also preceding her in death was her husband, W. Ray Baker, who died in 1979, a son, Ken, three brothers, Melvin, Moir and Earley and one sister Ninevah. Mrs. Baker was an active member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. In early years she was very active in the choir and in the Charming Years Senior Group. She loved her church family as she loved her own family. She had a special lifelong friend, Ann Tucker, of Kannapolis. Omie was employed by Northeast Medical Center as a dietician for sixteen years, retiring in 1984. Survivors include one daughter, Deanna Baker of Kannapolis, one sister, Cova Nester of Hillsville, Va., two granddaughters Debbie Bradshaw and husband Robert of Mt. Holly, and Gina Heatherington and husband Stuart of Pittsboro, NC, three great grandsons Elijah, Ethan and Easton. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Chris O'Guin. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. At other times they will be at the residence.
