Ophelia Vivian Caldwell Beam, 90, of Kannapolis, went to her heavenly home on Friday, November 3, 2023.
Ophelia was born on October 19, 1933 in Burlington, NC to the late Carl Caldwell and Lottie Mull Caldwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Beam, and a close cousin, Freda Davis.
Ophelia worked as a tutor for the Kannapolis City Schools for 30 years. She also worked as a newspaper carrier for the Daily Independent for numerous years. She was a faithful Christian and long-time member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church, where she joyfully sang in the church choir.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Rick (Karen) Beam; daughter, Gina (Andrew) Hartman; grandchildren, Paul (Amanda) Beam, Melanie Beam, Meaghan (Ben) Tipp, Matthew Sieber, Maura Sieber, Tamar (Abby) Surratt; great-grandchildren, Lewis Tipp, Baker Tipp, and Lucin Creswell; a close cousin, Milton (Janice) Mull, and a brother-in-law, Jerry (Pat) Beam.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow and begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Whitley’s Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Navey officiating. Entombment will immediately follow the service in the Mausoleum Chapel at Carolina Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cabarrus Meals on Wheels, Attn: Pet Food Project, 342 Penny Ln NE, Concord, NC 28025.
