Oscar Ray Christy

Obituary: Oscar Ray Christy, 81, of Kannapolis passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Tucker Hospice House following a short illness. He was born December 7, 1931 in Cabarrus County, NC a son of the late Walter Elmore Christy and Roxie Lee Arthurs Christy. He was a member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church. Oscar was employed by Cannon Mills for twenty years in the #6 weave room and later worked at Hoesch Celanese for twenty-six years, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, bingo and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty McNeil Christy of the home, two sons, Alan Ray (Lisa) Christy and Keith Randall Christy and special friend Angie Lathrop both of Kannapolis, one daughter, Vivian Rebecca "Becky" (Rick) Eckels also of Kannapolis, sister, Annie Christy (Bill) Long of Rockwell, three brothers, Ralph Steven (Rachel) Christy of Concord, Paul Christy of Kannapolis and David Leonard (Gloria)Christy of Kannapolis and Oak Island. He is also survived by a sister in law, Johnsie Christy of Gold Hill, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Mary Bell Christy, Goldie Rodgers, and brothers Cletus Christy, Raymond Frank Christy, Otto Christy and Walter Lee Christy. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Bethpage Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Ellen Gardner Campbell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary from 1:00-2:45 PM Sunday prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence.
