Obituary: Watkins, Oscar MartinKannapolis, NC- Oscar Martin Watkins, age 84, died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Five Oaks Manor, Concord, NC.He was born February 7, 1927 in Wilkes County, NC, the son of the late Oscar Martin Watkins, Sr. and Ida Shumate Watkins. In earlier years he entered into the U.S. Army having served during World War II in occupied Germany. Oscar was known in the area as a car detailer having worked at various places and also did light mechanic work. He was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he had served as a deacon and active in other phases of church activities. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Margie Absher Watkins in 1986; his 2nd wife, Helen Dial Watkins in 1997; a son, Larry Wayne Watkins in 1969. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 25, 2011 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Jim Grigg and a nephew, Rev. Herman Absher. The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home prior to the service.Survivors include a son, Michael Watkins & wife, Cathy of Mooresville, NC; a daughter, Aprille Harrison & husband, Jeff of Kannapolis, NC; a step-daughter, Lisa Morgan & husband, Chris of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, Angela Mullinax & husband, Dean, Heather Bullard & husband, Jason, Cody Harrison, Rebecca Harrison, Logan Morgan, and Landon Morgan; two great-grandchildren, Zach Mullinax and Julie Bullard.Memorials may be made to Franklin Heights Baptist Church, 2000 Lane Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
