Othelle " Sammie" Mayfield

Obituary: Othelle Davidson "Sammie" Mayfield, 75, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on August 8, 2014 from Tucker Hospice House after a 2 year battle with cancer. Her funeral will be at 1:00 PM Monday, August 11 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel with Rev. Rick Wilson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on Monday prior to the funeral. The family headquarters will be at 711 S. Zion St. Landis at the home of Duane and Lesa Ellis. Sammie was born May 31, 1939 in Gaston Co., a daughter of the late Samuel O. and Lillie Rankin Davidson. She was 1 of 6 children. She moved to this area from Gastonia in 1975. Sammie attended Calvary FourSquare Church with her family and worked at the Coltrane Senior Care Center for many years until she retired. She loved her family and friends, but most of all she loved Jesus. In addition to her parents, Sammie was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Jackson Mayfield in 1971 and her granddaughter, Angel Bousquet. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Ken Mayfield (Debbie) of Spartanburg, her daughters, Judy R. Godfrey (Jimmy) of Landis, Kathy Jo Coxey (John) of China Grove; her grandchildren, Lynn Walters (David), Johnathan Hamrick (Nikki), Kellan Mayfield, Christopher Coxey (Chelsie), her great-grandchildren; Lindsay, Cody, Casey, Madison, McKenzie, Tre, Easton, Chloe, Emery and many other loving relatives.
