Otis ("Odie") Eugene Webster, age 72, of Concord, NC, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2023. He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for a total of 23 years, achieving the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents Wesley and Yvonna Webster.
He is survived by his wife Beth; daughter Bethany (Josh); daughter Ann (Maureen); daughter Theresa (Rob), brother Charlie (Betty); grandsons Dominic, Viktor, and Anthony; granddaughters Dominique and Alexis; nephews Michael and Chuck; and many cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Otis was born in Oklahoma City, OK. Grew up in California, attended Taft Union High School (CA) and graduated from Muskogee High School (OK). As a student, he played football and was a nationally ranked competitive diver. As an adult, he continued his love of the water by teaching scuba diving.
Otis’ experience in the Marines played a very important role in his life. He had many amazing stories of his time in the service; the most important one being the moment he met Beth while in the Philippines. He loved telling everyone that he knew he would marry her the moment he saw her.
Prior to retirement in 2009, Otis worked at Piedmont Correctional Institution in Salisbury, NC as a Sergeant. He also volunteered with the Patriot Guard Riders, honoring Fallen Military Heroes, First Responders and honorably discharged Veterans. He made lifelong friends during his time in both organizations and his family thanks them for their outstanding support.
Otis' many interests and passions included golf, playing music, spending time with his family, and telling jokes to anyone who would listen. Otis loved to make others laugh, inspiring chuckles to belly laughs in those who knew him. He also loved chocolate cake, spending time outdoors and riding his motorcycle. He will be remembered as a wonderful son, brother, friend, and a loving husband and father.
