Obituary: Pastor Gary Ray Chapman, 72 of Concord, NC went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 at CHS-NorthEast surrounded by his family and friends. Pastor Chapman was born on May 4, 1945 in Cabarrus County, the only child of the late Ralph L. Chapman and the late Helen Gilley Chapman. Pastor Chapman graduated from A.L. Brown in 1963. He graduated from Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in 1978, Mid Atlantic Seminary with a Bachelor of Divinity in 1982; from Mid Atlantic with a Master of Divinity in 1983; on the Board of Associates at Gardner Webb College in 1981; taught Old Testament History, New Testament Survey and The Gospels, 1984 to 1988 at Mid-Atlantic Bible College in Rock Hill, SC. Pastored at Miller Street Baptist Church from 1978-1983; Pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist Church from 1988 until 2017 for 30 years. Also, served at several churches in North Carolina. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Doris Measmer Chapman, children; Dana Chapman, Tina Goodwin and husband, Kevin and Gina Paige and husband, Wayne; grandchildren; Kristen Goodwin and Emily James; great-grandchildren; Sparrow James, Asa James and Phoebe James. The service for Pastor Chapman will take place at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Oct. 2nd, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Allen Lefler and Pastor L.J. Mills. Burial will take place at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct 1st at Whitley's Funeral Home.
