Mr. Patrick Henry Cloninger, 97, formerly of Kannapolis, went Home to be with his Lord on October 22, 2022, in Lakeland, FL. He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, friend and child of the King. Patrick was preceded in death by the love of his life, Betty Miller Cloninger who passed away in August of this year. Patrick is survived by his daughter, Kay Bourque and husband Michael, along with his grand-dog Buddy.
Patrick was born in Bessemer City and served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Omaha. He worked for many years at Cannon Mills as a weaver. The most important things to Patrick were service to his Lord, his family, friends and his church. Patrick loved people and some would say he never met a person he did not know. Patrick was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Kannapolis where he served as a deacon, served with the Baptist Men and mentored many young men through the years in the Royal Ambassadors.
Patrick loved the Lord and his wife and was a wonderful example of how a man should live. Patrick recently celebrated his 74th wedding anniversary with Betty. We know that Patrick is again walking with Betty on those Streets of Gold and we have the assurance that someday we will have a happy reunion with them in Heaven.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 31 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Cloninger will begin at 2:00 pm In the funeral home chapel, conducted by Dr. Tom Cabaniss. Following the service, Mr. Cloninger will be laid to rest at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 101 N. Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
