Paul Lee Barnhardt, 84, of Kannapolis, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Tucker Hospice House following a lengthy battle with lymphoma.
A celebration of life service will be held Thursday November 4 at 3:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Kannapolis. Rev. Eddie Spencer and Rev. Bill Jolley will officiate. The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM. A private burial service will be held at a later time.
Paul was born on August 22, 1937 in Concord to Martin Barnhardt and Mary Goodman Barnhardt.
Paul graduated from Winecoff High School, and attended Davidson and Pfeiffer colleges. He served in the US Naval Reserve. He worked many years for Fieldcrest Cannon and later for Lockheed Martin. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 2001.
After retirement, Paul spent many hours as a volunteer for Atrium Health Cabarrus and for Lifeline. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis, where he served as an elder, member of the property committee, and in other capacities. Earlier in life, he served as a Scout Leader, Deacon, and in other capacities at Flow Harris Presbyterian. Paul was a humble servant leader in his family, church, and community. His devotion to Jesus Christ was evident throughout his life.
Paul was preceded in death by parents Martin Barnhardt and Mary Goodman Barnhardt. He is survived by wife Peggy Barnhardt of Kannapolis, son Jeff Barnhardt of Kannapolis, brothers Ron Barnhardt (Vickie) and Gary Barnhardt (Tracy) and sisters Joyce Nagy (George) and Linda Webber (Marty) all of Michigan. He is also survived by cousins Wayne Goodman (Debbie) of Harrisburg and Marilyn Upright of Concord, as well as other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Kannapolis Building Fund or to the charity of the donor's choice. Whitley's funeral home is serving the family.
