Obituary: Willie Paul Flowers, age 82, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Brian Center, Concord, NC after a period of declining health. He was born August 8, 1929 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late George Everette Flowers and Mary Phelps Flowers. Paul was a graduate of Landis High School and Lee College, Cleveland, TN. Paul served in the U.S. Air Force during the last part of World War II. He entered the ministry after service and also worked at area funeral homes throughout the years. He and his wife, Mary, were active members of Central Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he had served as an usher. They participated there as long as they were able. He is fondly remembered by his family as a man who had a special love for his family and studied his Bible on a regular basis. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Peggy Robertson Flowers; a sister, Pearl Black; and a granddaughter, Susan McDowell. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Central Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Curtis Parker. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC with military rites by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Mary Corriher Flowers; his children, Terry F. Starnes & husband, Ronnie of Rock Hill, SC, Eddie Paul Flowers & wife, Gale of Louisburg, NC, and Melissa Mattox & husband, Keith of Kannapolis, NC; his step-children, Dolores McDowell & husband, Jerry of Raleigh, NC, Gwyn Kluttz of China Grove, NC, Lee Sloan & wife, Dora of Corpus Christi, TX, David Sloan & wife, Judy of Rock Hill, SC, Karen Miller & husband, Henry of Mooresville, NC, and Ed Sloan & wife, Linda missionaries in Honduras; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ottis Farrington of China Grove, NC and Maudine Duncan of Salisbury, NC. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, in care of the Missionary Fund, 1812 Moose Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
