Paul Samuel Helms

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Paul Samuel Helms, age 82, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Five Oaks Manor, Concord, NC after a period of declining health. He was born November 23, 1927 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Bert Helms and Hattie Mae Greene Helms. He had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict & the 1950's. He was a driver's license examiner working with the State of North Carolina for 25 years. Later, he worked for Hilbish Ford Company many years until his retirement. Paul was a faithful member of Phaniels Baptist Church, Rockwell, NC where he had served as a deacon. He also was a member of Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge #695. Paul was also affiliated with the V.F.W. Poston-Perkins Post 8989. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Callie Irene Miller Helms, who died June 29, 2009; and three brothers, James, Earl, and Clifford; and one sister, Bertie. The funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Michael Taylor. Burial will follow at Phaniels Baptist Church Cemetery, Rockwell, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Survivors include one sister, Leona Troutman of Kannapolis, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
