Obituary: Paul Allen Hollifield, 89, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 29, 2016. He had been in declining health for about two years. He was a loving husband and father who will be missed for his optimistic viewpoints on life. He was born in Troutman, NC on May 10, 1926 to the late Edward W. Hollifield and Dora Stafford Hollifield who died two days later after childbirth. Paul graduated from Troutman High School where he was President of his class. He served in the Intelligence Section of the Air Force during World Was II. He was discharged in 1946 and married Betty Jean Kerley on March 6, 1948 and later moved to Kannapolis. He then graduated from North State Business School and secured a job with Cannon Mills working in the Data Processing Department until retirement. Paul was an active member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church where he was involved in several activities which included being the leader of the MYF for many years, ushered, and served on the Board of Directors. He was also actively involved in the Y's men's club and Indian Guides. Paul also enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, and spending time with his family. Because his grandchildren were very special to him, he attended their dance recitals, baseball/football/basketball games, and skating competitions. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Emo Hollifield Elliott and Rubie Hollifield Beaver, and three brothers, Fred Hollifield, Cecil Hollifield, and Ray "Buck" Hollifield. Paul is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Jean Hollifield of Kannapolis, his daughter Paula Jean Hollifield Davis and husband Rodney of Carrolton, GA, and a son Randy Joel Hollifield and wife Cheryl of Kannapolis. Grandchildren include Tyler Hollifield Myers and husband Jason of Mooresville,NC, Garrett Allen Hollifield of Huntersville, NC, Mallory Hollifield Kanos and husband William of Huntersville, NC, and Kayley Davis Sanders and husband Matthew of Carrolton, GA. Great grandchildren include Ryker Cannon Myers. A service of worship and celebration of Paul's life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Jackson Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Greg Gordon officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 to 3:00 PM prior in the fellowship hall. The family would like to thank Carolyn McCombs for her constant devotion, love, and support for Paul and to Hospice for their professional and personal care during this time.
