Obituary: Mr. Paul Ray Key, 72, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at CMC-Northeast Medical Center following a period of declining health. Paul was born February 22, 1942 in Wilkes County, NC a son of the late William Floyd Key and Mary Jane Roberts Key. He was one of twelve children. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Paul retired from Fieldcrest- Cannon with 35 years of service. He later was employed by Stanley Tools. He was an active member of Prince of Peace Freewill Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, choir member, and Sunday School superintendent. As long as his health permitted he was at church performing some duty for the Lord. Paul enjoyed animals, hunting and fishing and was an accomplished woodworker. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 10, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Chuck Overcash. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. At other times they will be at the residence. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Christine Key of the Home, four daughters, Debbie Morris (Harold) , Carolyn Keller, Sandy Loflin and Joyce Johnson, all of Kannapolis. Also surviving are three brothers, Jay Key of Landis, Homer Key of Kannapolis, and Gary Key of China Grove. Three sisters, Sue Hart of Lincolnton, Artie Wyatt of Wilkesboro, and Betty Thomas of Landis also survive. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Michael Morris, Jeremy Morris, Wendy Morris and Kevin Johnston, two great-great grandchildren, Johnny and Zoe Laturno also survive.
