Paul Russell

Obituary: - Paul Lamont Russell, age 93, died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC. He was born February 7, 1920 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Willie Pinke Russell and Roxie Mae Blackwelder. Paul was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant #4, Weave Room where he had served as a supervisor for many years until his retirement. He was an active member of Midway United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he had served in many phases of church activities. Paul was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. During that time he was instrumental in making maps of the western United States for the government. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. (Billie) Russell who died on April 18, 2013. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Midway United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. William Van Wieren III. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include his two daughters, Shirley L. Blackwelder & husband, Kenneth of Kannapolis, NC and Carolyn R. Garver & husband, Thomas of Landis, NC; four grandchildren, Kendall Blackwelder, Chad Blackwelder & wife, Becky; Scott Garver & wife, Donna; and Teka Hyatt & husband, Daniel; four great-grandchildren, Harley Blackwelder, Heather Blackwelder, Olivia Hyatt, and Madeline Hyatt.
