Obituary: Paul Franklin Whitley age 91 went home to be with his Lord Sunday June 19,2011. Mr. Whitley was born December 2, 1919 in Mecklenburg County to the Vergil and Mary Brumley Whitley. He was educated in the Mecklenburg County Schools and was employed with Cannon Mills for 46 years as a loom fixer retiring in 1982. Mr. Whitley was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and a member of the Odell Lions Club. He was affectionately known over the state of North Carolina as Lion Dad. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW 2 in the South Pacific aboard the USS Raymond. He was a Ham Radio Operator and loved to garden and wood working. Funeral services will be Wednesday June 22,2011 at 2:00 PM at Whitley's Funeral Chapel With Rev. Phred Causey officiating. The Family will see friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P M Wednesday before the service. Burial will be in the Carolina Memorial Park. Mr. Whiley is survived by two Sons. Harvey Whitley and wife Diane of Monroe and Randy Whitley and wife Donna of Kannapolis. Two Brothers, Gene Stiff of Rock Hill S.C. and Earl Stiff of Mooresburg Tenn. Also his Grandchildren, Paula Morris and husband Joe, Bryan Whitley and wife Denise, Travis Whitley and Tiffany Whitley.
