Obituary: Concord, NC- Paula Athena Brown, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Universal Healthcare, Concord, NC after a period of declining health. She was born February 20, 1940 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Paul Lee Brown and Ola Leallen Stafford Brown. She was a 1958 graduate of Concord High School, Western Carolina University, and Brevard College. She had attained three master's degrees in her education. In earlier years, Paula was employed in accounting for the U.S. Treasury Dept. as an agent where she audited books at various U.S. Air Force bases throughout Europe and other locations of the world. In later years, she was a professor at Coastal Carolina University where she taught accounting and immigrant English. Her family remembers her love of education and that she could teach almost anything. Paula loved animals and had an interest in painting throughout the years. She was a member of and was formerly active at Kingston Presbyterian Church, Conway, SC where she had served as secretary at times throughout the years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Brenard G. Brown and a sister, Juanita Brown Martin. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Larry Morgan, pastor of New Hope Worship Center, Concord, NC. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her sister, Margaret Brown Martin & husband, Michael W. Martin, Sr. of Concord, NC; nephews & nieces, Sterling Brown Martin (Lorene); William Lee Martin (Patty); Scott Brown (Sally); Lynn Brown; Leslie Brown; Michael Wayne Martin, Jr. (Collette); Susan Martin Dempsey (Troy); Regina Martin Gioconob (Mark); and many great-nieces and nephews.
