Paula Skidmore

February 8, 1952 — March 10, 2019

Obituary: Paula Jean Skidmore, 67, of Kannapolis passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House after a period of declining health. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the Skidmore family. Paula was born February 8, 1952 in Iredell Co. She was a lifelong area resident and longtime employee of Pillowtex Cannon Mills in the Towel Dept. Paula was diagnosed early in her teenage years with schizophrenia of which it is said there is no cure. In spite of this Paula persevered to get a High School education and in 1971 married David Skidmore. Paula and David in the early years lived in the Kannapolis area and attended church at West A Tabernacle Baptist Church. Later Paula and David made their home in Enochville. They were involved for a number of years with a van club and enjoyed attending various music concerts. Also they were gardeners raising and canning all kinds of vegetables. Paula and David both worked in the former Cannon Mills until eventually the schizophrenia forced Paula to retire and seek treatment at Broughton Hospital. Paula spent a good number of years there and received excellent care from a well trained staff that really loved and enjoyed her. Paula never complained about the life she was dealt and she always had a good happy attitude. David faithfully supported and visited with her there until his death in 2010. Apparently sometime before schizophrenia took over her mind Paula answered the question God asks of us all "What will you do with my Son Jesus who died for you?" in the affirmative and on March 10th 2019 Paula entered into that eternal life that God promised to those who do nothing more or less than believe what God said regarding His Son Jesus. By the way, there is a cure for schizophrenia. Paula received it March 10th, 2019. In addition to her parents, Paula was preceded in death by her husband, David Skidmore and her 2 brothers and is survived by 1 brother and numerous nieces and nephews.
