Pauline Shepherd Key

Obituary: Pauline Shepherd Key, 96, a long-time resident of Cabarrus County died May 28, 2013 at the home of her son, Tony Key, in Iredell County. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis conducted by the Rev. Steve Kirby. The family will receive friends and family at 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. Born January 9, 1917, in Wilkes County, Pauline was the youngest child of James Harrison Shepherd and Susie Jane Roberts Shepherd. She was retired from the Cannon Mills Company Plant One Cloth Room and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge A. Key, who died in 1973. Survivors include her son, Tony Key and his wife, Susan, of Statesville; a granddaughter, Ellen Key, of Charlotte; a grandson, John Key, of Statesville; and a great grandson, Hudson Key of Charlotte. Pauline enjoyed being with her family and celebrating the accomplishments of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed traveling on bus tours, crocheting and donating her work to others. She was an excellent cook and liked nothing better than cooking a meal for family and friends. Active well into her mid 90's, she was still driving at age 92. The family wishes to express thanks to all the wonderful members of Iredell Hospice and Sherrie's In-Home Care for the fine care they gave to Pauline.
