Peggy Jean Griffith Drye, 85, formerly of Kannapolis, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 2, 2019, at Lexington Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Born January 25, 1934 in Davie County, she was a daughter of the late Fred Wilson Griffith and Elsie Muriel Hellard Griffith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman David “Pete” Drye; and her brother-in-law, Johnny Wilkinson.
Peggy was a 1954 graduate of Winecoff High, and married “Pete” Drye in 1955. She retired after more than 30 years of loyal service from Concord Telephone Company. A longtime member of Sharon Baptist Church, Peggy loved all of her family, especially her grandchildren, and she loved her Lord. A very appreciative person, Peggy enjoyed yard work, roses, feeding the birds and just enjoying and being outdoors. Mrs. Drye also loved her terrier, “Roxie”.
Family members include her son, Eric Drye (Dena); her daughter, Angie McLaughlin (Charlie); brother, Jerry Wayne Griffith (Nancy); her sister, Debbie Griffith Wilkinson; grandchildren, Holly Frazier (Justin), Taylor Drye, Drew Mullis and Karrigan Drye; step-grandchildren, Kiersten and Hannah McLaughlin and her great-granddaughter, Addie Mullis.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening, October 6th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Services to remember and celebrate Mrs. Drye’s life will begin at 11:00 AM Monday, October 7, 2019, at Sharon Baptist Church in Concord, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James Strickland, Pastor. Mrs. Drye will be laid to rest with her husband at Carolina Memorial Park.
