Phillip “Gene” McGuire, Sr., 79, of Kannapolis, passed away Monday morning, September 6, 2021, at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
Born March 9, 1942, in Wilkes County, NC, Gene was a son of the late Robert Glenn and Ersie Faye Eller McGuire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wayne McGuire; a sister, Carole McGuire Sides; and his son-in-law, Tony Overcash.
Gene loved old cars and was talented in working on and fixing them. He was also gifted in fixing Mopeds as well. He was a talented guitar and Dobro player, enjoying playing for churches and just playing music with friends. Gene loved his family, his friends and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Loving family members include his devoted wife of 56 years, Marlene Hallman McGuire; his children, Teresa McGuire Overcash, and Phillip Gene McGuire, Jr. (Amanda); his twin brother, Dene McGuire, Sr. (Ramell); his sister, Linda McGuire Benton (Bub); grandchildren, Nicholas Bailey (Hannah), Andrew Overcash (Alex) and Laura Williams (Jake) and 6 great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Whitley's Funeral Home to help defray funeral costs.
A graveside celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Solid Rock Worship Center Cemetery, 3000 Centergrove Road in Kannapolis, with Rev. Jason Pierce and Rev. Bud Welch officiating.
