Phillip R. Dwiggins, 60, and his loving wife, Carol Yost Dwiggins, 61, have both passed into the loving arms of the Lord. The couple were married in 1979. Phil was born May 22, 1961 in Cabarrus County, to the late Ray Daniel and Helen Rebecca Love Dwiggins. They are survived by their daughter Cassandra Dwiggins Kluttz, husband Chris, grandchildren Abigail and Annalyn of Salisbury.

Phil is survived by a sister, Pam Mezuk; nephew, Jason Mezuk; great nephews Ethan and Connor; and cousin, Ronnie Morton and wife Nancy. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Daniel and Myrtle Dwiggins and John and Nannie Love. He was a 1979 graduate of East Rowan High School. He devoted 42 years as a volunteer fire fighter, was a retired captain and was currently serving as Vice President of the board of directors. He retired after 23 years in the Air National Guard. He is a veteran of Iraq war and was employed with NC State Department of Transportation as an Engineering Technician.

Carol was born February 11, 1960 in Iredell County, to the late Paul Wayne Yost. Surviving is her mother, Frances Morton Basinger, step-father Voight M. Basinger, two sisters Paulette Yost Schilke (Rob); Judy Yost Huffman (Frank), and a brother Roger Freeze (Patti); four step-sisters Debbie, Jill, Angie and Dena; a nephew, Paul Conner (Chasity); great nephews Jaxom and Brenton Conner; four nieces, Megan Huffman, Lacey, Katelyn and Megan Freeze. In addition to her father, she was proceeded in death by her step-father, H. Tillman Freeze; grandparents Crawford and Lucille Morton, Wayne Wright and Myrtle Yost, and GA Freeze. She was a 1978 graduate of South Rowan High School and had been employed with Ahold Delhaize (Food Lion Corporate Offices) for 33 years.

Phil and Carol were members of Grace Lutheran Church where they had served as youth leaders for 10 years and on various committees. Carol also served as a Sunday school teacher for many years, a Bible school teacher and an active member of Circle of Hope. Phil served on the council and served as the Vice President of the Men in Missions’ group. Both Phil and Carol were also active community members with Patterson Grange.

Joint funeral services to honor their lives will be held, Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 3:30 pm at Grace Lutheran Church Family Life Center, 3020 Grace Church Road, Salisbury. The family will receive friends from 1:30 -3:30 prior to the service Sunday at the church’s family life center.  Masks are required for the services and visitation.
